FAQs

  • Health & Well-Being Coaching is a collaborative process that empowers you to make sustainable lifestyle changes. It's effective because it focuses on your unique needs, motivations, and goals, using evidence-based techniques to foster lasting behavior change.

  • Coaching focuses on present and future goals and uses past successes and learnings to inform future endeavors. It complements, but doesn't replace, medical advice, offering practical strategies for implementing lifestyle changes recommended by healthcare providers and/or desired by yourself.

  • It's for anyone seeking to improve their overall health and well-being, addressing topics like mental and emotional well-being and stress management, nutrition, physical activity, sleep, relationships and communication, lifestyle, home and work environment, purpose and fulfillment, mindfulness, community, and personal growth. It's suitable for those with specific health concerns or those in good health looking to optimize their life.

  • Typically, coaching involves weekly or bi-weekly sessions over 3-6 months, or 6-12 months. The process includes assessment, goal-setting, action planning, execution, and ongoing support and accountability.

  • You'll receive personalized guidance, support, and resources to help you achieve your health and well-being goals. Success often includes improved health markers, increased energy, better stress management, stronger relationships and a significantly improved sense of purpose and fulfillment.

  • Yes, positive ones! You're likely to experience increased energy, improved mood, better relationships (including with yourself!), and an overall enhanced quality of life.

  • Developed by psychologist James W. Pennebaker in the 1980s, it is a therapeutic technique that involves writing about one’s deepest thoughts and feelings related to traumatic or stressful experiences. This approach is based on the idea that expressing emotions through writings can lead to improved physical and mental health. Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the method and have shown that the protocol can lead to: improved immune system function, reduced blood pressure, decreased depressive symptoms, better sleep quality, enhanced work and school performance, reduced anxiety and stress, improved mood and emotional regulation, better social relationships, and increased self-awareness and insight.

  • Yes, research supports the effectiveness of health coaching. Here is a sampling of articles (both professional research journals and mainstream publications, but you will find many more by doing a web search). Harvard Health cites a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, which found that Health and Well-Being Coaching led to significant improvements in participants' health behaviors and outcomes. The study showed that people who received coaching were more likely to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, lose weight, and report better overall health compared to those who didn't receive coaching.

You can read more about this research in the Harvard Health article: "Health coaching is effective. Should you try it?"

The National Institute of Health links to Jane Brody’s New York Times article: “We Could All Use a Health Coach

Amitha Kalaichandran, M.D. writes in The New York Times: “Resolving to Be Coached” - The New York Times

Arianna Huffington writes in Time that “Behavior Is a Miracle Drug for Our Health” and the way to truly move the needle on chronic health diseases.
